This topic gets dug up periodically on other forums; but, we needed some activity here.
Will someone with an '04 or later SVTf look at your supplemental manual and tell me what oil filter is recommeded? In the '02 supplement, the FL-400S is listed. In my recent visit to TmFord, they insisted that FL-2005 is the correct part. FYI, the difference between the two has something to do with a drainback valve. Based on recent postings on the national website, it appears SVT says either filter is acceptable. However, I remember running into this at my first oil change. TmFord put on the 2005. I called SVT and they confirmed the 400S was the correct part. Though it sounds like I'm ok with either filter, I'm looking for feedback from other SVTf owners or any of you mech/tech's that might stumble onto this thread.

OH.
Except Travis. Since I don't think the 3/4-v8 is as picky about its diet as these little 2.0L Zetechs.

FWIW, I always used the 2005. I liked the idea of storing oil in the filter to lube the engine quicker on startup. If all of the oil drains back into the crankcase, it takes longer to build pressure and fill the oil galleys, the filter, and finally the bearings.
The block casting is the same for a standard Zetec and the SVTF motor, and the 2005 is recommended for the Zetec. I don't believe you would run into any problems by using the 2005 and getting oil to the top end sooner. |

Better being 3/4 than 1/2 there buddy.
Hey how the hell did I get pulled into this one. If I am not mistaken my car takes the same as the Cobra? Which is the same as your the FL-400 in the Motorcraft!
